M1 closed live updates as southbound side shut after crash involving motorbike

The M1 was closed southbound between Leicester and Lutterworth for a few hours earlier today (Tuesday, April 8) due to a "road traffic incident". Drivers were being urged to avoid the area following a collision[1] involving a motorbike. Highways East Midlands posted on X just before 9.44am today to say: "M1 southbound between J21 Leicester M69 and J20 Lutterworth is closed following a collision involving a motorbike.
Traffic has been stopped on the northbound carriageway while @WNDLRAirAmb[2] land at scene. Leicestershire Police said in a post on X at 9.30am today (Tuesday, April 8): "Please be advised that the M1 is closed in both directions at Junction 20-21 northbound and southbound due to a road traffic incident[3]. Please find alternative routes and updates will follow.
Thank you for your patience." Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said they had been called to the scene by the ambulance service at 9.23am and that it was being reported as a two-vehicle crash. The road had fully reopened by just after 1pm this afternoon.
