Lorry driver arrested after A14 crash leaves one dead and three seriously injured

A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal crash on the A14 last night (Tuesday, 22 April). Emergency services remain at the scene of the collision on the eastbound carriageway at Horningsea.

Police, fire and the ambulance service were called at about 9.25pm with reports of a collision involving multiple vehicles. One person in a car has sustained fatal injuries.

Three other people in the same car suffered serious injuries. The driver of a lorry, a 38-year-old man from Cambridge, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.

The road is currently closed eastbound between junction 34 and 35 and is likely to remain closed for some time. National Highways says it is working hard with the emergency services to reopen the road as soon as it is safe to do so. Once the police investigation has been completed, any repairs needed will be carried out which is likely to include resurfacing.

A diversion route is in place following the A10 (northbound), A1123 and A142 to rejoin the A14 at junction 37.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw the vehicles in the moments leading up to the incident.

They would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time with dash cam footage.
