Live Leicestershire updates as M1 closed in both directions after ‘incident’

The M1 is closed in both directions between Leicester and Lutterworth[1] this morning (Tuesday, April 8) following what police called a "road traffic incident". Drivers are being urged to avoid the area. Leicestershire Police said in a post on X at 9.30am today (Tuesday, April 8): "Please be advised that the M1 is closed in both directions at Junction 20-21 northbound and southbound due to a road traffic incident.

Please find alternative routes and updates will follow. Thank you for your patience." The full details of the incident are yet to be established, but Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said they had been called to the scene by the ambulance service at 9.23am and that it was being reported as a two-vehicle crash.
