Good Friday travel LIVE UK traffic updates as Easter bank holiday weekend begins

Drivers and passengers are being urged to plan ahead of their journeys as the Easter weekend gets underway. Millions of people are expected to hit the road across the UK over the next four days, while several rail journeys are also likely to be congested or disrupted. Engineering works are taking place on a number of railway lines over the bank holiday weekend, with some services being reduced.

And workers are currently on strike at both Hull Trains and Gatwick Airport, affecting travel plans for many across the country. The AA estimates nearly 20 million people will travel by car on Good Friday (April 18) alone, with motorists warned to expect disruption at key hotspots. The M6 in Birmingham and near Blackpool, the south and western M25, the M5 at Bristol and the A303 in Wiltshire are among the roads likely to be worst hit.
