Freeport house fire causes more than $100K in damages

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - A basement fire leads to heavy smoke damage at a home in Freeport, according to the fire department.

Just before 3:30 p.m. April 18, Freeport Fire Department responded to the 900 block of S.

17th Avenue for a single-family residence with smoke coming from the basement windows and rear door.

According to officials, the fire was extinguished quickly but there is smoke damage throughout the home. Damage to the property is estimated at more than £100,000.

Off-duty personnel were called to assist and respond to additional calls in the city.

No firefighters were injured, and one resident was treated on scene and released.

The Red Cross is assisting the resident.

The fire is considered accidental, according to a report.
