All lanes reopen between J29 and 28 for Chesterfield and Mansfield after M1 lorry fire

Drivers faced long delays on the M1 due to a lorry fire this morning (Saturday, April 26). Emergency services including police and the fire service were at the scene on the southbound side[1] of the motorway between junction 29 for Chesterfield and junction 28 for Mansfield. National Highways East Midlands posted a photo of the lorry fire just after 6.10am on Saturday.

A spokesperson for Highways said: "Traffic has been STOPPED on the M1 southbound[2] in Derbyshire between J29 (Chesterfield) and J28 (Mansfield) due to a lorry fire. "Emergency services are just arriving on scene. Thanks for your patience if you're held up."

All lanes have since reopened this afternoon following this morning's fire - but overnight lane closures have been confirmed by National Highways to allow resurfacing work to take place.
