Pelican crossing out of action on south Essex road after lorry smashes into power box

According to reports from an Eastwood councillor, the large lorry smashed into the crossing's power box, dealing serious damage.  The affected crossing is outside the Esso petrol station on Rayleigh Road, with Southend Council reportedly aware of the incident.

There is currently no indication of any casualties involved in the crash, but the East of England Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment. 

Paul Collins, Lib Dem councillor for Eastwood, said: "Due to a large lorry smashing into the power box of the lights, they are currently out of action.  "Take care when crossing Rayleigh Road and use Progress Road or towards Jones Corner". Mr Collins added that officers from Southend Council were aware of the issue and had visited the site. 

While there are currently no reported closures or disruptions on the AA journey planner, traffic is moving slowly along parts of Rayleigh Road.
