New plans made for school pupils facing disruption during road and rail closure

As a section of the Cambrian Line will be closed for engineers to carry out maintenance works along the railway in March and April[1], alternative travel arrangements have been made to Ysgol Bro Hyddgen in Machynlleth. For some pupils travelling to the school has been complicated by a combination of a closure along the A470 between Talerddig and Dolfach for roadworks[2] and the railway engineering works taking place at the same time. A letter sent to parents of the school outlined how the alternative transport would work, saying that Celtic Travel will be taking on the MC161 service to take pupils in the area to Ysgol Bro Hyddgen via minibus.
MOST READ The service will be picking pupils up from a number of stops in Carno, such as The Aleppo Merchant Inn, the former Laura Ashley factory and Talerddig bakery before travelling to Ysgol bro Hyddgen. The letter states: "We are writing to inform you of the alternative temporary arrangements to the MC161 service due to the current closure of the A470 and the planned rail closure.
"From March 17 through to April 2, Celtic Travel will be taking on the MC161 service and conveying the learners to Ysgol Bro Hyddgen via minibus. "The minibus will pick learners up from Carno and then Talerddig, travelling via the short diversion to Bont Dolgadfan, travelling northwards on the B4518 and then along the A470 on the other side of the diversion. The same route will be followed in the reverse order in the evening.
After this time the MC161 will revert to Lloyds and their normal service pattern. "We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period. "Any transport to cover extra-curricular activities or revision sessions are not the responsibility of the local authority, and no further transport will be provided.
"The T12 service bus can convey students as far as Dolfach, but the cost of this will need to be covered by the learner.
"Priority is given to ensuring the safety and continuity of transport at this time."
