Live M62 traffic updates tonight as vehicle fire leaves motorway blocked

The M62 is closed in Greater Manchester due to a 'serious' crash and fire with a junction tonight (Sunday, March 2 into Monday, March 3). The crash has taken place on the westbound carriageway at Junction 19 (Middleton Road) near Heywood. The incident and closure were first reported at around 11.45pm on Sunday.

Emergency services including the air ambulance have been at the scene and the road was closed between Junction 20 and Junction 19 for several hours - a traffic diversion route[1] in place. The motorway reopened between Junction 20 and Junction 19 shortly after 3.30am. However the closure within junction 19 remains in place while police continue to investigate.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "The M62 is now OPEN westbound between J20 Rochdale and J19 Heywood. The closure between the exit and entry slip roads at J19 remains in place." "Police continue their investigations at scene."
