Live: M49 traffic stopped because of sheep

A major motorway in Bristol was closed this evening (March 5) with all traffic halted due to sheep on the road. Traffic monitoring site, Inrix, reported just before 6pm: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to animals on road on M49 in both directions from M4 J22 to M5 J18." And a few moments later, National Highways reported: "The M49 is CLOSED southbound between the M4 and M5/A4 near Severn Beach, due to several sheep in the carriageway.

National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene." A diversion was temporarily put in place as National Highways officers dealt with the incident. The road was reopened at 6.30pm.
