Live Kent M2 updates as multi-vehicle crash causes long delays

Delays built on the M2 near Sittingbourne[1] this morning (Wednesday, March 19) following a crash involving four cars. The incident had taken place on the London-bound carriageway at Junction 5 for Stockbury Roundabout, Sittingbourne and Maidstone[2]. One lane had been blocked as a result, with heavy congestion building on the approach.

Road users faced queues of approximately one mile at the incident's peak, with traffic spreading back towards Junction 6 near Faversham[3]. Kent County Council's (KCC) Highways department urged drivers to "approach with caution." The collision had been cleared shortly before 9am. A spokesperson for Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called just after 7.50am on Wednesday 19 March 2025, to a four-vehicle collision on the M2 London-bound, between junctions five and four.

Officers attended the scene, where no injuries were reported." Further delays then built nearby on the coastbound carriageway soon after following a separate collision involving two lorries. Police were called to the scene between Junctions 4 and 5 where two lorries had crashed near the turn off for the Medway Moto service station.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: "Kent Police was called at 8.20am on Wednesday 19 March 2025 to a report of two lorries colliding on the M2 coastbound between junctions four and five. Officers attended the scene, where no injuries were reported." National Highways confirmed at 10.23am that the vehicles had been cleared from the motorway and all lanes had been re-opened along this stretch of the M2 coastbound.

Delays cleared soon after.
