Police have released CCTV images of the 33-year-old as the search across Greater Manchester and Lancashire continues.

What do we know about the escape?

Cooper had been on his way to Lancaster Magistrate's Court from Blackpool when the GEOAmey van he was travelling in was forced to pull over due to an apparent medical emergency on the M55, near to Junction 2, close to Catforth.

It is here that the 33-year-old 'overpowered and evaded' the officers and made off from the vehicle.

A video circulated by the BBC[2] shows Cooper running across a field parallel to the motorway, looking over his shoulder.

A spokesperson for GEOAmey said: "Whilst in transit to Lancaster Magistrates' Court the vehicle had to pull over on the M55 in the Catforth area to deal with an on-board medical emergency. The detained person[3] involved in this emergency then overpowered and evaded the escort officers and escaped from the vehicle."

Where has he been sighted?

In the time since, Cooper has been sighted across Greater Manchester and the wider north west, with the police receiving reports of the man in Bolton,[4] Preston, and Blackpool.

What to look out for

Police say Cooper was last known to be wearing black trainers, blue jeans, a grey top, and a blue coat, which he can be seen wearing in the newly released custody photo.
