Bus disruption expected due to railway bridge works in Busby

The major roadworks set to be carried out by Network Rail on the railway bridge on Busby Road are expected to cause significant disruption to bus services using that route. Users of First Bus Service 6 are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow for additional travel time to prepare for buses that will have to follow a diversion due to the works. The roadworks are due to begin on Monday 17th March and are expected to last until the morning of Friday 28th March.

Disruption is to be expected between the following times:

  • Monday 17th March to Wednesday 19th March: Due to an overnight closure, diversion will be followed between 10pm and 7am each night.
  • Thursday 20th March to Friday 21st March: Due to an overnight closure, diversion to be followed between 5pm and 10am.
  • Friday 21st March at 10pm to Tuesday 25th March at 7am: Due to full closure during this time, diversion to be followed at all times with shuttle buses running between East Kilbride bus station and Calderwood for all Service 6 journeys on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
  • Tuesday 25th March to Friday 28th March: Due to overnight closure, diversion to be followed between 10pm and 7am each night.

A spokesperson for First Bus, said: "We're committed to providing an efficient and reliable service for customers. Like any other road users, our buses are impacted by roadworks and circumstances out with our control. "We wanted to issue notice in advance as far as possible to support customers who use our Service 6 and allow them to plan journeys.

Further information can be found via our website, social channels and through our customer services team." We estimate the diversion will add between ten and 15 minutes to each journey.
