Update on long-running roadworks at M6 junction 22 for Winwick

Cllr Stuart Mann, who represents Burtonwood and Winwick ward, has given an update on Parkside Link Road and junction 22 of the M6. Those passing through the junction for many months will have seen ongoing roadworks on the roundabout above the motorway. These are linked to the construction of a new link road planned as part of the regeneration of the former Parkside Colliery in Newton-le-Willows.
Cllr Mann said: "Some positive news regarding the works being completed as part of the Parkside Link Road scheme, specifically at junction 22 of the M6. "Traffic management was removed from the M6 junction 22 gyratory, including slip roads, A49 Winwick Link Road and A579 Winwick Lane overnight on Thursday. "The new traffic signals are in operation as of after morning rush hour today, Friday, and a period of monitoring will take place.
"I am hoping that the completion of these works will swiftly lead to the opening of the new Parkside Link Road in full and, importantly, help to ease some of the traffic woes and congestion we have suffered for far too long.
"Only time will tell if the road will have a sustained positive impact upon what are already saturated local roads."
