Manchester rail passengers warned of Major Disruption after car crashes onto railway tracks

Due to a police incident, which involved an overnight car crash that saw the car crash onto the railway line, there is major disruption this morning between Newton-le-Willows / Wigan North Western and Manchester Oxford Road[1] / Manchester Victoria. All lines have been closed and major disruption is expected until 1 pm today (7th February). The incident has also caused a loss of power to the overhead line equipment.
Northern[2] says that rail replacement buses are in operation but warns that journeys will be extended by up to 60 minutes via road and has advised that Liverpool Lime Street passengers can still travel via Warrington[3] Bank Quay. Ticket acceptance is in place with Transport for Wales[4] between Chester[5] and Manchester Victoria via Stockport TransPennine Express say that trains may be diverted or canceled with ticket acceptance in place with Metrolink, TPE services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly and East Midlands Railway.
Transport for Wales say that trains have been revised to start and terminate at Newton-le-Willows, with rail replacement buses in operation.
A GMP Spokesperson said "Please expect some delays this morning while remedial works are carried out following a 1 vehicle collision.
There will also be disruption to the rail network as the car has landed on the train tracks.
Driver arrested for positive breath sample."
