An investigation is underway into a serious crash on the M5 which saw a man killed after being hit by a lorry.
Motorists in the West Country were stuck in gridlock for hours after the motorway was closed following the crash - which involved a pedestrian, a car and a lorry.
Emergency services were called to the incident, which took place between junctions 24 (Bridgwater South) and 25 (Taunton), shortly after 2.45pm on Wednesday.
Crews discovered that the pedestrian, a man in his 50s, had sustained fatal injuries.
Despite the best efforts of ambulance staff, he sadly died at the scene. Police say his family have been notified and will receive support from a specially trained officer.
The M5 remained shut in both directions until 6.15pm whilst officers carried out a lengthy investigation into the crash.
Avon and Somerset Police are now appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward.
