Motorists planning to use the M62 between Manchester and Warrington are being warned to expect disruption this weekend. Resurfacing work is set to take place on the motorway's westbound carriageway between between junction 12 (Eccles[1]) and 11 (Birchwood).

As a result, the M62[2] westbound will be completely closed to traffic overnight between 9pm on Friday, February 21 and 6am on Saturday, February 22. A second closure will then be in place between 11.15pm on Saturday and 6am on Sunday, February 23, reports the MEN[3].

When the motorway is not closed, it will be reduced to two lanes on Saturday.

Motorists are being urged to factor extra time into their journey as a result.

A Bee Network spokesperson said: "To reduce disruption to road users, full closures of the carriageway will take place overnight. On Saturday night, the carriageway will close later, to minimise delays and disruptions for fans travelling back from events including those held at the Co-op Live and AO Arena."

No work will take place on the eastbound carriageway, which will be fully open during the works. They added: "We're advising drivers to use alternative routes if they can, especially during the day on Saturday.

The 50mph speed limit will remain in place, but delays are likely.
