HyHAUL showcase advances hydrogen-powered heavy haulage in the UK

HyHAUL, a government-backed project aiming to decarbonise the UK's heavy haulage sector, has brought together some of the UK's largest operators to gain firsthand experience of
hydrogen HGVs. Held at UTAC Millbrook, the event featured live demonstrations, including rides in a FAUN Zoeller hydrogen HGV and a Toyota Hilux on Millbrook's Hill Route. Attendees also explored a range of hydrogen-powered vehicles and infrastructure, including Viritech's hydrogen ICEBreaker, a hydrogen CaetanoBus, and refuelling and hydrogen mobility solutions such as Fuel Cell Systems' HyQube, Reynolds Logistics' MEGC, and Protium's hydrogen trailer.
A key objective of the event was fostering collaboration between operators and manufacturers that included Scania and Quantron along with hydrogen industry experts. HyHAUL's Managing Director, Kyle Arnold, led discussions outlining the project's vision, objectives, and roadmap for integrating hydrogen HGVs into commercial fleets. Jon Perry, HyHAUL's Commercial Manager, commented on the event's success: "The level of engagement was exceptional.
Due to high interest, we expanded both the event's capacity and duration to accommodate valuable discussions. This has been a significant milestone for HyHAUL, strengthening relationships and accelerating progress towards our goals." He added, "Experiencing the vehicles firsthand and facilitating direct collaboration between stakeholders has been invaluable."
HyHAUL aims to drive the UK's transition to zero-emission heavy haulage, beginning with the development of the UK's largest hydrogen mobility corridor along the M4. The project focuses on deploying hydrogen fuel cell HGVs and establishing supporting refuelling infrastructure. HyHAUL is actively engaging operators across key industrial sectors, particularly along the M4 corridor, to facilitate the rollout of 30 hydrogen HGVs by 2026, scaling up to 300 by 2030.
This is just the first stage in HyHAUL's ambitions to deliver full UK hydrogen mobility coverage.
