Human remains found on M4 stopping traffic to and from Wales

Police have launched an investigation after human remains were found on a stretch of the M4 near Bristol. Avon and Somerset Police believe the body is that of a man in his 40s. The remains were found between junction 20 at the Almondsbury Interchange with the M5 and junction 21, near Awkley, in South Gloucestershire.

According to the force, drivers began calling 999 from 6.40pm on Saturday after they spotted an object on the motorway. "Officers attended and found human remains," confirmed Avon and Somerset Police, adding, "An investigation to establish how the person came to be on the motorway continues." Officers have informed his family of the discovery, reports WalesOnline[1]. Traffic into and out of South Wales was heavily disrupted after a section of the M4 was closed between junction 20 and junction 22 at the Prince of Wales Bridge over the River Severn.

Also affected was the eastbound side of the bridge and the M48 connecting the bridge to the M4.
