Freeport ‘ready’ to export 1.3m tonnes of copper concentrate this year – Companies – The Jakarta Post

T Freeport Indonesia president director Tony Wenas has said his company is ready to export 1.3 million tonnes of copper concentrate worth an estimated US£5 billion this year. Tony said on Tuesday that the gold and copper miner was still waiting for an export permit from the government, given that its last permit expired at the turn of the year. "Yes, hopefully [we'll get the permit].

We're sure that we'll be given it, but it's still in process. You can probably try and ask the government," Tony was quoted as saying by state-owned news agency Antara. The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry recently expressed support for the extension of Freeport's copper concentrate export permit.

Tri Winarno, the ministry's coal and mineral mining director general, said on Friday that the government supported it under "the terms and conditions in place", according to Antara.

He said the government had not extended Freeport's export permit because it was investigating a recent smelter fire.

The incident temporarily halted Freeport's production, which is why the company requested an extension of its concentrate export permit.
