Essex lorry driver arrested after woman dies in serious crash

A woman in her 20s has died following a serious crash with a lorry - with an Essex man arrested. The incident took place in Portsmouth on Tuesday morning (February 11) and now police have appealed for witnesses. Hampshire Constabulary were called just before 8.30am on Tuesday following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry being driven on the roundabout junction of Gunstore Road and Norway Road in the city.

Sadly the pedestrian, a woman aged in her 20s and from Guildford, Surrey, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry, a 45-year-old man from Romford, Havering, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care or consideration while unfit through drugs. A spokesman for the police said: "If you witnessed this collision, or have any relevant dash cam or CCTV footage that may assist our investigation, please contact us.

"In particular we would like to speak to the driver of a light blue Kia Soul with a white roof that stopped just in front of the lorry immediately after the collision occurred, as the driver may be a key witness.
