Environmental assessment paused for Edinburgh Road rail crossing

The city is pressing pause on an environmental assessment at the rail crossing at Edinburgh Road. The city said it comes as the project to improve the rail crossing was deferred from the 10-year capital budget forecast for budgetary reasons. Because of that, the city said any findings from this environmental assessment - scheduled to begin early this year, looking at alternatives to "maintain the safety and connectivity" at the level rail crossing - would expire before the project is funded.
"There are no safety implications to the public by pausing this work," the city said in a media release. "Any work completed to date will remain relevant when the project resumes at some point in the future." It added the existing crossing is still operating in compliance with regulations put out by Transport Canada.
The city added the pause will allow the city to focus on other projects in the capital budget.
