Dramatic pictures reveal ‘immense’ damage and disruption after bin lorry crash

Dramatic pictures have revealed the scale of damage following a two-vehicle collision on a busy road[1]. Police, fire and rescue crews were called to the scene following the incident which involved a bin lorry. The crash happened just before midday today (Monday, February 24) on the B668 Greetham Road, near Cottesmore, Oakham[2].

The incident involved a Biffa bin lorry and a car, with the collision closing the road for three hours. Other pictures released by police show the bin lorry at rest in a ditch.

It had to be winched out by a Crouch Recovery team at the scene. ADVERTISEMENT Leicestershire Police[4] said it was fortunate nobody was hurt in the crash.

In a statement, they said: "A very busy shift assisting our response colleagues this morning, covering emergency incidents across Rutland culminating in a two-vehicle collision at the Exton turn of the Greetham Road, just outside Cottesmore. "Very luckily nobody was injured here but the amount of damage and disruption caused was pretty immense, and took a number of services to deal with. Collisions like this serve as a timely reminder that it's not always excessive speed that causes accidents."

Police added: "Sure nobody was hurt, but this could have so very easily been a different outcome.

We know how disruptive road closures can be and we always try to keep them on only for as long as they absolutely need to be."
