Dramatic pictures after driver’s foot trapped in lorry crash

A lorry driver had to be freed by firefighters after their foot became trapped under the dashboard in a dramatic Leicestershire crash. Images released by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS)[1] show the devastating impact of the collision, with a completely shattered windscreen and the front of the lorry crumpled. The incident happened last Tuesday (February 11) in Loughborough [2], with multiple emergency services called to the scene.

The driver was unable to exit the vehicle after their foot became wedged under the dashboard in the impact, with photos showing the hood of the lorry bent upwards from the impact. LFRS said crews from Birstall [3] and Eastern stations joined technical rescue specialists and air ambulance medics at the scene. They added that the specialist heavy rescue unit from Southern Station was also deployed due to the challenging nature of the incident.

The lorry driver, who has not been identified, was freed using specialist equipment and taken to hospital for treatment, with no further details on their conditon revealed. East Midlands Ambulance Service [5] and Leicestershire Police [6] also attended the incident. In a social media post, the service said: "Heavy goods vehicles, by their nature, present challenging incidents for firefighters due to their larger size. Utilizing specialist equipment carried on the heavy rescue unit based at Southern Station this incident was brought to a close."

The fire service has urged drivers to pull over if they feel tired and to maintain sufficient braking distance from other vehicles.
