Bin lorry crashes into lamp post while collecting waste

A bin lorry crashed into a lamppost while out collecting waste causing delays to collections and the road. Castle Point Council has launched an investigation after the lorry crashed in Benfleet. The incident took place on Wednesday last week (January 29) and the council has apologised to the residents affected by the crash, as come collections were delayed.

A spokesman for the council said the lamppost was later attended to by Essex Highways and work is ongoing to establish how the crash took place. The council said: "We are currently investigating an incident that occurred on Wednesday 29th January 2025 involving one of the council's refuse collection vehicles which collided with a lamp column in Melcombe Road, Benfleet whilst collecting waste.

"The damaged lamp column has been attended to by Essex Highways.

We take this opportunity to apologise to our residents for any inconvenience this incident has caused."
