Van driver in Royal Stoke after 3am M6 lorry crash

A van driver was freed from his vehicle before being taken to hospital with 'potentially serious injuries' following a smash with a truck on the M6.[1] Police, paramedics and firefighters were scrambled to the southbound carriageway in North Staffordshire - where all traffic had to be brought to a stop. Now West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] has confirmed the casualty was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital[3] after Friday morning's collision. Emergency services had been sent to the scene - between junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent South and junction 14 for Stafford North - at around 3am where they found a truck and van had crashed.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service[4] sent crews from Hanley and Newcastle to the scene. A spokesperson said: "One man was trapped in a van by the steering wheel and was removed from the vehicle by fire service crews." Paramedics say the patient suffered 'potentially serious injuries'.
A spokeswoman said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving a van and a HGV on the M6 between junctions 15 and 14. One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a man who was the driver of the van, he was assessed, and had sustained potentially serious injuries.
He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further assessment."
