Rail and road services disrupted as truck strikes bridge and overturns

A key route is closed after a truck struck a bridge and overturned. The lorry collided on Summer Road near to South Road, in Erdington, before 11am on Friday (Jan 3). The road has been shut in both directions by police while work is underway to remove the HGV.

Train services from New Street Station to Lichfield[1] Station have been disrupted. Bus transport is being organised and passengers are being advised to check their journeys before setting off. West Midlands Fire Service is assisting in the operation.

Sutton New Road - the main road through Erdington town centre, and other streets leading to Six Ways Island - Reservoir Road, Gravelly Hill North and Wood End Road, as well as Station Road and Short Heath Road, will be affected.

In an unconnected incident, a lorry driver was charged[5] with drink driving after his vehicle struck the same railway bridge in Summer Road, Erdington[6], shortly before 12.30pm on Friday, November 8.
