Major road shut as emergency services scrambled to lorry and bin wagon crash
Drivers are facing major disruption on a busy east Manchester road following a crash. Part of the A635 Ashton[1] Old Road has been closed off this morning (January 31) following a collision involving a lorry and a Biffa bin wagon. The major road has been closed in both directions between Odell Street and Bartlett Street, in Openshaw[2].
Drivers are also facing queues approaching the scene in both directions. Greater Manchester Police[3] is in attendance at the scene. An area close to the crash also appears to have been taped off.
The collision is believed to have taken place at around 8.10am. The lorry appears to have been registered in Morocco. Images from the scene show the vehicle has suffered significant damage to its front end.

The Biffa wagon does not appear to have been severely damaged following the crash. There are not believed to be any serious injuries following the crash. Recovery work is ongoing at the scene.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At just before 8.10am on Friday (January 31) one fire engine from Gorton[4] Community Fire Station attended a crash involving two HGV vehicles on Ashton Old Road, Manchester.

Crews were in attendance for around one and a half hours."
