M6 crash: Two lanes closed with six-mile queues following lorry crash

Drivers faced long delays on the M6 in Greater Manchester. Traffic was briefly stopped following a collision involving a lorry on the southbound carriageway near Wigan this morning (January 30). National Highways says a HGV left the road in the incident.
Emergency repairs took place after a barrier was damaged on the road. No injuries were reported following the crash, Greater Manchester Police confirmed. The lorry was the sole vehicle involved in the incident.
Two lanes of traffic were later closed between junctions 26 for the M58 Orrell Interchange, and 25 for Bryn. Vehicles had been held at the scene for around 15 minutes earlier this morning. There are six-mile queues approaching the scene.
A National Highways North West spokesperson wrote on X: "2 (of 4) lanes remain closed on the #M6 southbound between J26 and J25 #Wigan due to the earlier incident involving a HGV. "This has resulted in barrier damages that will require repair. Recovery is en route.
Delays are in excess of 30 minutes and approx.
6 miles."
