Lorry and van smash closes main A-road

A driver was taken to hospital with whiplash following a crash between a lorry and van in Cornwall this morning, Wednesday, January 22. Police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on the A39 near Truro around 10.45am. Pictures from the scene showed long tailbacks along the A39.

One witness said: "Heavy traffic on A39 between Playing Place and Truro. Reports state a crash, seen two police cars heading to the stretch." The A39 has now reopened after emergency services attended the scene.

Roads and traffic monitoring site, Inrix, said: "A39 in both directions partially blocked, queueing traffic due to accident near Kea Church turn off." A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 10.45am on Wednesday 22 January following reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a van on the A39 near Truro. "One driver has gone to hospital with whiplash.

The road has since cleared."
