Kent Police and National Highways Traffic Officers are at the scene and plans are being made to release traffic that is trapped behind the accident. National Highways says specialist equipment will be required to clear the carriageway of debris and this is currently being sourced.

A diversion route has been set up for anyone travelling coastbound with drivers advised to follow the hollow circle symbol on road signs. Follow our travel blog[1] and listen to travel updates on our sister radio station kmfm[2]. Motorists should exit the M20 at J8 and take the third exit at the roundabout and at the next roundabout take the first exit on to the A20.

Remain on the A20 until the junction with Fougeres Way where it will will turn northwards towards J9 of the M20 and rejoin the M20 eastbound at J9.

Vehicles which exceed the height restriction of 4.7m will be diverted at scene via local routes.
