Damage shown as bus and HGV’s head-on crash closes road

The road was closed by police (file photo). (Image: PA) Emergency services arrived including police, firefighters and ambulances while officers closed the road. The road was blocked in both directions after the crash took place at 1.45pm.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said at the time: "Drayton Road is currently closed between Preston Road and Stonehill Lane following a collision between an HGV and a training bus. "Thankfully, there are no serious injuries, but the driver of the lorry and four individuals on the bus have minor injuries." A spokesperson for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said on Friday: "We received a call at 1.44pm today following a report of a collision between a lorry and a bus at the junction between Drayton Road and King Street, Abingdon. "Fire appliances attended from Abingdon, Dicot and Kidlington fire stations. "One person needed to be released from the cab of the lorry, using a platform to access the vehicles and specialist equipment to help free them.
