Crash on M65 near Blackburn causes rush hour chaos

One lane was closed on the motorway near Blackburn, between Junction 5 for Guide and Junction 6 for Whitebirk, following an accident late this afternoon. Lancashire Police said they were called at around 3.45pm to reports of a crash between three vehicles. North West Ambulance Service were also in attendance but are yet to respond to requests for further information.

The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway but with it being rush hour there were also delays on the opposite side of the motorway.

Local roads leading to the motorway, including the A666 at Junction 4 and Haslingden Road at Junction 5, also became severely congested as the motorway was not moving.

Traffic has now cleared in both directions.
