Tragedy as man killed in three-vehicle crash involving tractor and lorry

A man has sadly died following a three-vehicle crash in Staffordshire[1]. He was driving a Ford pick-up truck which collided with a blue Valtra tractor and a yellow articulated Volvo lorry on Watling Street in Weeford, near Lichfield[2]. Emergency crews were called to the area just before 5pm on Thursday, December 19, but sadly nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ford driver has not been named by police but they have confirmed that he was in his 60s. The man's family are being supported by specially trained officers. Neither the tractor driver nor the lorry driver were injured in the incident but a woman suffered minor injuries when hit by debris from the crash, Staffordshire Police has said.

"We were called at 4.50pm yesterday (Thursday 19 December) to reports of a collision involving a black Ford Ranger pick-up truck, a blue Valtra tractor and a yellow articulated Volvo lorry on Watling Street, Weeford. "Sadly, the driver of the Ford, a man in his 60s, died at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers.

The drivers of the lorry and the tractor were not injured. "We are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage which could help collision investigators. Call us on 101, quoting incident 553 of 19 December, or message us using Live Chat on our website.

"You can also get in touch with collision investigators directly by emailing [email protected]." A West Midlands Ambulance Service[4] spokesman said that bystanders tried in vein to save the man. They added: "Upon arrival crews found three vehicles that had been in collision, a pick-up truck, a lorry and a tractor. The driver of the pick-up truck, a man, was found to be in a critical condition and was already receiving basic life support from bystanders, including colleagues from the fire service.

"Ambulance staff quickly began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone's best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

A woman, who was hit by debris from the collision, was treated for minor injuries before being taken to Good Hope Hospital.

"The lorry driver, a man, was assessed and discharged at the scene whilst the tractor driver did not wish to be assessed."
