Freeport Councilwoman Jeannie Mazurowski has resigned from her post. Appointed in January, Mazurowski confirmed her resignation to TribLive on Friday, citing prioritizing her family obligations as the primary reason for her decision to exit public service. "I don't think I have the time to put into the borough that I thought I would," Mazurowski said. "It's family first."
She submitted a resignation letter to council on Dec.
19. "It was a wonderful experience, and I enjoyed learning about our borough and helping to get things going in the borough," Mazurowski said. Mazurowski is retired from the Freeport Area School District and is a member of Kiwanis and St.
Mary's Parish in Freeport. Freeport Mayor Zach Gent described the news of her resignation as "an incredible loss." "I'm not sure anyone cared more about the public works team, secretary or borough manager more than she did," Gent said. "However, I know her well, and she will continue to serve our community with her entire heart."
Council now consists of members Lori Miller, Sally Riley, Stephanie VanTine, Sara Conroy, Kim Barr and its president, Rick Fennell. Mazurowski's resignation comes on the heels of Gent's resignation announcement in October.[1] Gent is leaving office at the end of the year.
"I wish the next person in line the best of luck," Mazurowski said. The next borough council meeting is Jan.
