An idiotic driver has been caught by police doing 117mph on a fog-covered motorway and has admitted he was racing to get to an Ikea sale.
The speeding offence occured along the M60 near Stockport, with a police patrol spotting the red audi zooming down the motorway.
After finally catching up with the driver, police managed to pull the car over in the Tameside area.
It was here that the driver conjured his unique excuse of needing to make it to the Swedish furniture store's winter sales.
Ikea has a huge store located just off the M60 in Ashton-under-Lyne and has been running a 60 per cent sale over the Christmas[2] period.
It appears as if the driver's planned savings will be wiped out though by a potential speeding fine, as he must now attend court 'to explain his actions'.
The North West Motorway Police, which oversees roads in the Greater Manchester area, tweeted about the incident today and attached an image of the offending driver's car.
'Driver of this Audi was sighted by GMP motorway patrol on M60 at Stockport driving at 117mph in extremely poor visibility due to fog.

The driver gave the excuse that he was trying to get to Swedish furniture giant Ikea's winter sale
'Driver stated he was rushing to get to IKEA. Not a good enough or valid reason. He will now have his day in Court to explain his actions', the tweet read.
Earlier on today, North West Motorway Police had issued warnings to motorists that 'fog in parts of the region is causing some visibility problems'.
This incident follows a similarly daft Christmas Day speeding offence in which a BMW driver was caught doing 118mph in Hampshire along the M27.
After being pulled over, police cameras captured stickers on the back of the car which read 'My driving scares me too' and 'Too loud, too bad'.
That driver is also set to face a court date for the alleged speeding offence.
Hampshire police on X said: 'The roads might be quiet but it's no excuse to use them as an autobahn.
We are still out on patrol.
'This driver found out the hard way'.
