Pedestrian, 81, dies in lorry crash on busy town road

Police[1] are investigating the death of an elderly man following a lorry crash in a Nottinghamshire town. The 81-year-old pedestrian died from his injuries after a crash on North Road in Retford[2] shortly before 9.30am on Wednesday, December 4. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Nottinghamshire Police[3] said.

The road[4] has been closed in both directions, with the force adding its investigation was ongoing.

Sergeant Mark Baker, of Nottinghamshire Police[5] 's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a tragic and upsetting incident for everyone involved and we are currently working to understand what happened.

"Our thoughts today are with the victim's family who will be supported in the days ahead by specially trained officers." Police have asked additional witnesses to come forward by calling 101 and quoting incident 140 of December 4.
