Part of A46 near Coventry closed after lorry crash and ‘fuel spillage’
Part of the A46[1] near Coventry[2] has been closed for emergency repairs after a fuel tanker crash yesterday (December 14). It happened between Gaveston and Thickthorn. Police were called to reports of a collision involving a fuel tanker at around 3.30pm.
Diesel was spilt on the ground and had to be cleared by National Highways. Drivers reported significant delays towards Coventry[3]. Traffic was said to be at a 'standstill' near Warwick Arts Centre[4].

Lanes 2 and 3 of the A46[9] (Northbound) reopened at around 7.20am this morning, National Highways said. At the time of writing, the A46[10] (Southbound) had also reopened. Traffic is said to be coping 'well.'
Motorists have been warned that the A46[11] will be completely closed later today (December 14) while resurfacing is completed. Diversions are likely to be in place throughout the evening. In a statement issued today (December 15), Warwickshire Police[12] said: "It is likely the A46[13] will have to close in both directions again later today in order for it to be resurfaced."
