Man arrested for drink driving after lorry ploughs into ambulance
Paramedics and police officers were on the scene of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian when the second collision happened. The driver of the lorry was then arrested for drink driving. Posting on X, officers from Hampshire Constabulary said: "Driver of this HGV has been arrested for drink driving this evening, after colliding with an ambulance which was on scene with us at an RTC in Southampton.
"Driver will now be spending his night in a cell and one less ambulance on the road tonight." The ambulance had to be taken out of service, South Central Ambulance Service confirmed. READ MORE: Police arrest 25 people as they seize GBP9k and cocaine[1]
A spokesperson said: "Fortunately neither our ambulance crew, nor anyone else already at the scene, were injured as a result of this but honestly, drinking alcohol and then getting behind the wheel of an HGV? "Thank you to our colleagues from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary for their support tonight and please don't drink and drive. "The original incident that the ambulance was attending involved a collision between a car and a pedestrian, with the pedestrian sustaining a serious arm and shoulder injury.
"There was a delay getting the patient to hospital as we had to send a second ambulance, with the first ambulance having to be taken out of service." The incident sparked outrage online, with one X user writing: "Good grief! "Hope the occupants of the ambulance were okay and those at the RTC."
Another added: "Hope you and the ambo crew were uninjured and not by the vehicle when this happened."
