Lorry driver dies following incident outside warehouse
A lorry driver has died following an incident at a Bristol distribution depot. It is believed that the lorry driver worked for B&M Stores and was in the parking area of the DHL warehouse, in Avonmouth[1], at the time of a fatal collision. Emergency services were called to the scene on the morning of Sunday, December 8.
A witness has told BristolLive that there was a large police presence during the early hours. The ambulance service has also confirmed that two ambulances[2] and the hazardous area response team were sent to the scene. BristolLive understands that the lorry driver died following an incident involving an HGV at the site in the early hours of Sunday, December 8.
An investigation is under way. A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has told BristolLive: "We are leading the investigation into this incident and remain in contact with Avon and Somerset Police." A statement from the South West Ambulance Service states: "We were called at 4.37am on Sunday 8 December to an incident in Avonmouth[3].
We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, and the hazardous area response team to the scene." Avon and Somerset Police has also been approached and said the HSE are leading this incident. A spokesperson for DHL said that they felt it would be "inappropriate" to comment given the driver was "a B&M employee".
B&M has been approached for comment.
