Live M62 traffic updates as fire leaves lanes closed on Christmas Day

A vehicle fire on a major motorway near Greater Manchester has left lanes closed to traffic on Christmas Day. The fire is on the M62 eastbound between Junction 22 and Junction 23. - with one lane still closed. The lane closure was first reported at around 1.50pm and all traffic is now being held.

Photographs show traffic[1] queueing as a result. Inrix, the traffic data company, said: "Queueing traffic and one lane closed due to vehicle fire on M62 Eastbound from J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) to J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield). All traffic was held for a short while."

A National Highways spokesperson said: "Lane 1 remains CLOSED on the M62 eastbound between J22 Denshaw and J23 Huddersfield for vehicle recovery following a vehicle fire. Lanes 2 and 3 are now OPEN. There are currently delays of 15 mins and approx.

2 miles of congestion."
