Lekki Port, Freeport Terminal, Lagos Free Zone launch shipping alliance

In a significant boost for Nigeria's maritime sector and international trade, the management of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL), Lekki Freeport Terminal, and Lagos Free Zone has announced the launch of alliance services from global shipping giants COSCO, ONE (Ocean Network Express), and ZIM at the Lekki Deep Sea Port. The landmark event was highlighted by the arrival of the E. A.

Centaurus at the port last week. Measuring 277 meters in length and capable of carrying 7,000 TEUs, the vessel is the largest COSCO ship to ever dock in Nigeria. The Lekki Freeport Terminal CEO Christophe Cassang described the launch as a critical milestone in the terminal's development and capacity expansion.

He emphasized the terminal's ambition to become a leading maritime hub in West Africa. "By partnering with global shipping leaders like COSCO, ONE, and ZIM, we are not only enhancing our international presence but also unlocking new opportunities for trade and industry in Nigeria and the wider region. Our team is driven by innovation, supported by state-of-the-art technology, and committed to meeting the dynamic needs of the shipping industry and our customers," said Cassang. Managing Director of Lekki Port, Du Ruogang, referred to the launch as a significant step in advancing Nigeria's maritime future.

He noted that the E. A. Centaurus's arrival marked the beginning of bi-weekly services from the COSCO, ONE, and ZIM consortium. "This development is a testament to our commitment to making Lekki Port a transformative force in Nigeria's maritime industry.

After just 18 months of operation, we are thrilled to welcome this consortium, ushering in a new era of higher cargo volumes and enhanced efficiency for businesses across the country. This is only the beginning," Ruogang said. Adesuwa Ladoja, CEO of Lagos Free Zone, hailed the launch as a game-changer for the region.

She highlighted that the introduction of services by COSCO, ONE, and ZIM would attract significant foreign direct investment (FDI) into the Lagos Free Zone, further boosting the economic prospects of the area.
