Ferrovie dello Stato and Ports of Genoa ink deal to boost rail-port digitalisation
The Italian railway holding Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) and Ports of Genoa signed an agreement to boost digital synergies between the railways and the port infrastructure. This is the third such agreement for FS, which has already finalised one with the ports of La Spezia and Carrara and with the port of Ravenna. "The agreement will make it possible to initiate a computerised exchange of data on the main processes dedicated to rail transport services originating or arriving in the ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado", FS specified.
This initiative should facilitate communication between transport modalities and enhance the efficiency of rail operations in ports, including loading and unloading or shunting. The deal with Ports of Genoa, which manages the ports of Genoa, Savona and Vado Ligure, and the ones with the other port authorities are part of a larger project to implement the so-called National Logistics Platform (PLN). This measure, financed by the Italian ministry of transport with 250 million euros, is part of Italy's Recovery and Resilience Facility.
The PLN project is based in three principles: interoperability, reutilisation and managerial autonomy.
