Crashed lorry props up teetering scaffolding in Devon town
A main road through a Devon town was still closed a day after a lorry crashed into scaffolding which then hit power cables. Photos taken at the scene in Ottery St Mary shows a police cordon still in place around a One Stop delivery lorry which appears to have collided with scaffolding on the side of a building. The collision was first reported just before 9am on Monday (December 9).
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said at the time: "Police were called at 8.55am today, Monday 9 December, to reports that a lorry had struck scaffolding on Jesu Street, Ottery St Mary. "It was also reported that the scaffolding was leaning against powerlines. A road closure has been put in place until engineers have assessed the situation with the power cables."
A witness, who sent several photos to DevonLive, said the road was still closed as of around 11.20am today (December 10). As well a the local road closure, Ottery St Mary is also facing a power cut, with more than 500 homes affected by the high voltage outage. The power cut was first reported at around 6pm on Sunday, December 8, when dozens of power cuts were first reported as a result of Storm Darragh.
