‘Severe delays’ as lorry fire leaves M11 closed in Cambs

The M11[1] is shut to traffic in Cambridgeshire[2] due to a lorry fire today (Friday, November 29). The northbound carriageway is shut at Junction 11. A Cambridgeshire Police[3] spokesperson said: "Junction 11 northbound closed following a lorry fire.

The road will remain closed whilst emergency services deal with the incident and the road surface is cleaned. Please use alternative routes and expect delays." A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At 5.33am crews from Sawston, Cottenham, Cambridge and Burwell along with a water carrier from Newmarket[4] (Suffolk[5]) and a crew from Royston[6] (Hertfordshire[7]) were called to a lorry fire on M11 near junction 10.

Wearing breathing apparatus firefighters used hose reels and small tools to extinguish the fire before returning to their stations by 7.50am. The cause of the fire was accidental." Inrix, the traffic data company, said: "M11 Northbound blocked, severe delays due to lorry fire from J11 A10[8] Cambridge Road (Cambridge[9] South / Harston) to J12 A603 Barton Road (Cambridge).
