A1 remains shut as crash sees lorry end up in field
The A1 is closed to traffic due to a crash today (Friday, November 1) that has seen a lorry leave the carriageway and overturn in a field. The southbound carriageway is shut from the A47 at Wansford. Police first confirmed the closure at around 3.10pm.
Four miles of congestion are reported and the closure is set to remain in place for several hours. A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that the A1 southbound is closed from the A47 at Wansford whilst emergency services deal with a road traffic collision.” Diversion route: A1 traffic diversion route as crash sees road closed in Cambridgeshire[1]
A National Highways spokesperson said: “The A1 in Cambridgeshire is closed southbound between the Wansford Interchange (Peterborough (N), Leicester A47, Wansford) and Chesterton Junction (Orton, Alwalton Showground A605). This is due to a serious incident involving a Heavy Goods Vehicle which has left the road and overturned in to a field. “Cambridgeshire Police.
Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue, East of England Ambulance Service all have units attending the incident.
It is currently expected this closure will remain in place for several hours due to the severity of the incident.
“There are delays of 45 mins and 4 miles of congestion approaching the closure at Wansford.”
