M62 blocked by lorry fire in dramatic pictures

These dramatic pictures show how a lorry burst into flames on the M62. The motorway between junction 28 at Tingley and junction 29 at the M1 was closed in both directions on Saturday, November 2 due to a lorry on fire. Photos from the scene show a large fire on a lorry pulled over to the side.

The lorry can also be seen surrounded by firefighters who attempted to put out the blaze. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to extinguish the blaze. According to National Highways, the road was closed in both directions to allow for the fire service to access a water source on the westbound side of the motorway.

They also said “multiple” fire service appliances were on the scene. It’s understood the fire took hold at around 11pm on Saturday, November 2. Firefighters worked for several hours into Sunday morning to put out the blaze, and huge queues could be seen building up on the M62 as a result.

The westbound carriageway was reopened at 2.51am, according to National Highways, but the eastbound carriageway, on which the fire took place, remained closed for several more hours. This reopened later at 5.36am. National Highways said: “The #M62 eastbound is now OPEN between J28 (#Tingley) and J29 (#M1) near #Leeds.

Thank you for your patience.”

Both carriageways have since reopened.
