M6 closure live updates after lorry crash as air ambulance lands

There is a full closure on part of the M6 after a lorry crash. The HGV has overturned and there are “severe delays” between J33 A6 Preston Lancaster Road (Lancaster South / Garstang) to J32 M55 (Broughton Interchange). Police say the road will be closed for “a number of hours”.

The extent of any injuries is unknown but an air ambulance has been scrambled to the scene. According to traffic alert site Inrix, all traffic was held at 11.30am. It reads: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M6 in both directions at J33 A6 Preston Lancaster Road (Lancaster South / Garstang).”

A spokesman said: “We’re currently at the scene of a full closure on the M6 in between junctions 32-33 .

The motorway is closed due to a road traffic collision and we anticipate this will be closed for a number of hours. Thank you in advance for your patience. “We were called at about 11.20am to reports of a serious collision on the M6 motorway close to junction 33.

The motorway is currently closed in both directions while emergency services deal with the incident.

We will release further information when we are in a position to do so.”
