Lorry crashes through motorway fence and into farmer’s field
A food delivery lorry crashed off the M5 and through a fence, coming to rest in a field alongside the motorway. Eyewitnesses have said paramedics are at the scene of the crash, which has taken place just off the northbound carriageway between junctions 27 and 26. National Highways traffic cameras show the vehicle, claimed by witnesses to be an M&S food truck, in the field, with several emergency vehicles in the hard shoulder.
Reports indicate traffic is coping well for now, as no motorway lanes are currently blocked. An eyewitness said: “M&S truck gone through fence and into field. Ambulance was with the driver when I passed.
“Truck is upright as the ground was level with carriageway at that point.” Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a lorry on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junctions 27 and 26, near Tiverton, at around 10.30am today, Friday 22 November. “It was reported that the lorry had left the carriageway and was in a field alongside the motorway.
No injuries were reported. Recovery has been arranged and the scene has been handed to the highways team. “The lorry driver has been reported to court for driving without due care.”
The road reopened by around 3.30pm.
