Live M1 updates as two lanes closed following vehicle fire

Two motorway lanes were closed tonight (Thursday) following vehicle a fire. The incident was first reported at 3.56pm. The closures were in place on the M1 southbound between junction 23 A512 Ashby Road East for Loughborough and J22 A511 Little Shaw Lane for Coalville/Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

There is also traffic building on the opposite carriageway due to onlookers. At around 3.50pm all traffic was held just before junction 22. National Highways East Midlands said at 6.01pm: "All lanes have reopened on the #M1[1] southbound in #Leicestershire[2] between J23 and J22 following an earlier car fire.

There are 5 miles congestion following this incident so please allow time for delays to clear."
